The Client
The Ramblers Association (Britain’s walking charity) was founded in 1935, the Ramblers have campaigned, lobbied and helped step-by-step build a walking Britain.
In the past 75 years, they’ve helped gain 10 national parks, a 130,000 mile path network and open access land in England and Wales, and land reform in Scotland.
This site was built for the West Riding Group of the Ramblers Association.
The Brief
The West Riding Ramblers produce a 6 monthly walks diary in print and were looking for this information to be displayed on their website. Previously they had a web design firm update this diary but we’re looking for this to be brought in house so they could update the online diary themselves.
For this they were looking for a diary input system and walks diary that users would be a able to search dependent on factors such as location, grade of walk or date.
Another feature they were looking for was the ability for members to be able to submit images taken whilst out walking for use in the Ramblers Walk Diary in print.
The Project
Using PHP and a MySQL database the Ramblers Association were provided with a custom built diary management system which was simple enough to follow that members picked it up quite quickly.
The whole site was also built around a content management system to allow updating without the requirement for specialist code to be known.
