Where I’ve come from; where I am now; where I’m going
After studying ‘A’ Levels in Physics and Maths and an ‘AS’ Level in Business Studies, I left education at 18 not really knowing what I wanted to do with my life. Just knowing I wanted to get a job.
This job turned out to be in the banking industry.
Now 27 I left banking just over a year ago as I decided there was still time to get back into education and re-skill myself for something I wanted to do for a career before it was too late.
I made the decision to follow a career into computing and enrolled on HND in Computing (General) at Wakefield College. Half way through the first year I realised this was not the course for me and spent one of my class days completing an online careers questionnaire.
The results of this directed me towards being a Computer Multimedia Specialist or even a Web Designer. This is something I had never even thought of as a career path but always liked being creative and had recently started experimenting with Dreamworks.
After investigation I located the Interactive Media Course at Wakefield College and then weighed up my alternatives as to remaining on my current course for the 2nd Year or switching over the summer months to follow the subject I was actually interested in.
Now enrolled on the Interactive Media course and just completed an interesting week of induction, I’m looking for the course to provide me with the knowledge and skills to succeed within the industry. Hopefully it will lead to working in a studio environment and potentially even freelance when I feel established enough.
Ideally long term I would like to be able to support myself enough to set up my own design studio.
